This tour is best suit for the traveller who is eager to travel on The Great Silk Road combined with Uzbekistan. You cross the Uzbek – Turkmen border “Shavat” from Khiva, Uzbekistan and exit from border “Farap” to travel further to Bukhara, Uzbekistan. During the travel in Turkeminstan you visit the most interesting and mysterious places of Turkmenistan in a fascinating 3 days. After crossing Uzbek – Turkmen land border with further travel to Dashoguz followed with visits of the Door to Hell “Darwaza” and capital city Ashgabat. You will have an unforgettable journey to ancient castles and ruins of antique buildings, once being majestic in Mary and Merv, and enjoy elegant oriental architecture of minarets and mausoleums. You will also see one of the Turkmen natural wonders – a gas crater burning in the midst of the Karakum desert nearly half a century.
Meet the tourists at the border in the morning at 09:00 (You should be at the Uzbekistan border at 09:00). Border & customs formalities from both sides. Your guide and driver will accompany you to one of the main natural attractions of Turkmenistan, named the Gas Crater, dubbed by foreign travelers as "The Door to Hell". The Derweze area is rich in natural gas. While drilling in 1971, Soviet geologists tapped into a cavern filled with natural gas. The ground beneath the drilling rig collapsed, leaving a large hole with a diameter of 70 metres. To avoid poisonous gas discharge, it was decided that the best solution was to burn it off. Geologists had hoped the fire would use all the fuel in a matter of days, but the gas is still burning today. You will taste a delicious barbecue dinner prepared by our guide and driver. Overnight in a yurt (tent, mat, pillow, sleeping bag are provided). Meals: BBQ dinner.
Picnic-style breakfast. Drive to Ashgabat. Check in to the hotel. Free time for your leisure. Then you can explore the Ashgabat city tour. In 2013, the Guinness Book of Records named Ashgabat “white marbled city” – here you can see the biggest number of structures in the world made out of white marble. You will see Wedding Palace, Ferris Wheel, Constitution Monument, Arch of Neutrality, Monument and park of Independence, Ertogrul Gazi Mosque, Ashgabat Sports and Housing facilities, the Earthquake and victims of WWII Monuments. Drive to visit the Carpet Museum, one of the best in Central Asia, featuring designs from the Tekke, Yamud, Sarik, and Chodor tribes. The Turkmen carpet museum is one of the cultural centres of Turkmenistan, where about 2000 carpet exhibits, including rare ones, are exhibited. For example, the museum has the smallest carpet with keys, as well as the world's largest hand carpet with a total area of 301 m², which was woven in 2001, and in 2003 it was added to the Guinness Book of Records. Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport for a flight to Mary. Drive to Bayramali city, 30 km from Mary, to explore ancient Merv – “Queen of the world”, which was one of the most important capitals of Islam along with Baghdad, Cairo, and Damascus. Sightseeing in ancient Merv includes the Greater Kyz Gala & Lesser Kyz Gala (VI-VII), the Complex of Askhabs (VIII-XIV), the Erk Gala (VI BC), the Gyaur Gala (IV BC), the Hoja Yusup Hamadani complex, the Sultan Sanjar mausoleum, and the Muhamed Ibn Zeid mausoleum. Then drive to Farap – Alat border, 240km, 4-hour drive. Border formalities on both sides follow your trip to Bukhara in Uzbekistan. Meals: BBQ dinner.
