THE FIRST “WORLD NOMAD GAMES”

XX century presented many sport megabrands to the world such as Olympic Games(IOC), the FIFA World Cup (FIFA), Stenli’s Cup (NHL), fights for the World Championship in boxing (WBC) and others. Actually all important sport events have been developed in last century, but world demands new shows.

  • “World Nomad Games” is absolutely new format of tournament consisting of ethnical sports, which are not represented in any dig sport events.
  • “World Nomad Games” is a new brand on the world sports, which will create all necessary conditions for cultural uniting not only in Eurasian area but in whole world.
  • “World Nomad Games” have potential to influence developing of such spheres as culture, sports and tourism.
  • “World Nomad Games” represents not only sport events, but also cultural heritage and values of each ethnicity participating in these games. This project popularizes not only sports, but also preservation of national cultural traditions showing unique identity and philosophy of each ethic group.
  • In order to manage “World Nomad Games”, the special “World Ethno Games” Social Fund and a committee was created in Bishkek.

“World Nomad Games” is differ from traditional sport events by the following:

  1. Unique identity – each type of ethnic sport reflects values, culture and living ways of this ethnic group. They have very own type of history and traditions which differ them from Olympic games.
  2. Being spectacular – many types of ethnic sports give sense of primal cruelty and naturalness. For example, in “Kok-Boru” game, player seem to need more protective suits than in hockey, because of high risk to get heavy injuries. But all they have is strong burst of adrenaline for both players and spectators.
  3. Profitability – Ethnic sports do not require construction of expensive stadiums and infrastructures; however, the economic output might have the same scales if compare to traditional sport events.
  4. Touristic value – games are held in such way that it resembles large cultural festivals introducing culture of several ethnic groups, which is not present in Olympic Games.

A team which throws more number of goat bodies to the special cauldron – wins. Rules of “Kok-Boru” game were set by International “Kok-Boru” Federation. Each game lasts 60 minutes (3 times by 20 minutes).  Places of teams are defined depending in gathered points. If teams have the same amount of points, advantage will be given to team which won the exact game of these teams. If this internal game was tied, than winner is determined by the following criteria:

  • The greatest number of victories throughout tournament;
  • The best difference of the thrown and passed carcasses of goats between teams;
  • The best difference of the thrown and passed goats during all games.
  • Teams will be divided into 2 groups. Winner of group meets with team which has taken the second place in its own group. Winners of semi-finals play in grand finals to determine the champion; losers play for the third place.

ORDO – It Is necessary, that each team has 7 tomboys, 68 pieces of alchiks (small bone part from goat or sheep’s legs) and numbers imprinted on sportswear. The flawless victory implies knocking – out of all alchiks including khan alchik. Team who knocks-out the most number of alchiks within game is a winner. If one side knocked-out all the alchiks, the other side has to do the same. Otherwise first side gets flawless victory.  If the quantity of gathered points is equal, the winner will be revealed by the result of an internal game. If that game is tied, then all the knocked-out alchiks throughout all games are counted.

One game lasts up to 2 hours. Worn spot of tomboy’s bottom side should not exceed 15 mm. The usage of self-made items as tomboy are forbidden.

TOGUZ KORGOOL – Team consists of 8 people: 4 men, 4 women over 18 years. Games are held by a circular system. Each player is granted 1 and half hour per game. Winner gets 1 point, loser- 0 points, tie-0,5 points.  Who gets the most number of points is equal, the winner will be revealed by the result of an internal game. If that game is tied, then the earliest win through all games defines the winner.

AT CHABYSH – “Horse Racing”. Team consists of 3 people: 2 jockeys over 14 years and 1 coach. Horses up to 3 years of any breed can participate in the race. Races are held at different distances.

KYS KUUMAI – “Girl chasing”.  It is an equestrian traditional sport among Nomad peoples. It exhibits elements of horse racing but is often referred to as a “kissing game”. A young man on horseback waits at a starting line. A young woman, also mounted, starts her horse galloping from a given distance behind the young man. When the young woman passes the young man, he may start his horse galloping. The two race towards a finish line some distance ahead. If the young man is able to catch up to the young woman before they reach the finish line, he may reach out to her and steal a kiss, which constitutes victory. However, if the young man has not caught up to the young woman by the time they reach the finish line, the young woman turns around and chases the young man back to the starting line. If she is in range of the young man, she may use her whip to beat him, which signifies a victory for her which is shame for man.
